Gorkha Secondary School Tulsipur, Dang

Background

A clique of Ninety Seven Lahures (Nepalese who served in the British Army) determined to spread the light of education in the Lumbine State  of Nepal established Gorkha International Public Secondary school with the motto “Education is the Light” in Ghorahi Municipality-14, Dang on 1998. The common purpose of establishing the school was to provide skill-based education to children of the area that the Lahures were deprived of when they were young and were forced to seek opportunities in the foreign land as illiterates. The group of 97 which is now called Gorkha Group has been a major contributor to introducing child-centered teaching approach in children-friendly environment in the Lumbine State . What started as a small school in Gorhahi just two decades back is now a school of 2500 pupils and 150 teachers and staff.

Gorkha Group has collaborated with local intellectuals and nationally renowned personalities to establish the Gorkha Secondary School in Tulsipur is in operation since 2012 and serving 2500 students now.

Curriculum

We implement Nepal’s National Curriculum tailored with a multi-dimensional child-centric approach. We engage children in inquiry-based learning approaches and children are trained to explore knowledge instead of just being recipients of knowledge through teachers or the textbooks.

Co-curricular Activities

We strive to inculcate love for lifelong learning. We offer a wide range of electives for children in addition to academic activities. We involve children in a host of activities that prepare them to be leaders in their choice of fields. Our children are involved in fine arts, sports, drama, elocution contests and community service. We have hired coaches and mentors who help children acquire essential life skills of the 21st century.

Teaching Learning Methodology

We believe in an experiential learning approach and we strive for it. Our teaching approach thus involves activity-based learning. We encourage our children to value process rather than end results. We inculcate a strong sense of self-discipline and hard work in our children preparing them to become leaders of their choice of fields.
